A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed as he walked on a public footpath through a golf course. The victim, in his 60s, was walking on a footpath through Stafford Castle golf club when an attacker approached him from behind and stabbed him at around 7pm on Thursday.
He was discovered on a bench by a member of the public, who alerted emergency services. The victim remains in hospital in a critical condition and both him and his family are receiving support from specialist officers.
South West Midlands Ambulance Service, the Midlands Air Ambulance and the National Police Air Service all attended the scene. The suspect was described as being in his mid to late 20s, potentially of Eastern European heritage, of an average build and wearing dark clothing.
Officers have launched a fresh appeal to anyone with CCTV of dashcam footage or who was in the Castlefields area between 5 and 8pm. Residents have been warned to expect a higher police presence in the area, as officers conduct patrols, house-to-house enquiries and forensic examinations.
Detective Inspector Dave Rowlands said: ‘I want to reassure the community that we are doing everything in our power to identify and apprehend those responsible.
‘There is a significant policing operation underway, including increased patrols in the area, and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to our officers.
‘We are committed to keeping the public informed and ensuring the safety of our community.
‘Your information remains vital to our investigation, and even the smallest detail could make a difference.’
