Emmerdale viewers are already convinced they have solved one of the village's latest mysteries, and they do not think prime suspect Kev Barton (Chris Coghill) is at fault. Instead, fans have developed an unexpected theory pointing the finger at Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), with some convinced she could have staged the café break-in to finally remove Kev from Lewis Barton's (Bradley Riches) life.
Thursday's Episode Sets Up the Mystery
Thursday's episode ended with a hooded figure breaking into Café Main Street, smashing the place up with a crowbar before making off with the cash box. The timing could not have looked worse for Kev. Just moments earlier, he had clashed with Nicola and vowed revenge, making him the obvious suspect when the robbery unfolded.
While Kev has a criminal past, many think the ITV soap is deliberately making him appear guilty before revealing someone else was behind the attack. Some fans even believe the robbery was staged specifically to frame him.
Fan Theories on Social Media
Taking to X, one viewer wrote: 'Wonder who is robbing the cafe? Kev or is someone going to frame him?' Another said: 'I bet that's Ross or Nicola who is vandalising the cafe.' A third questioned: 'Is Kev really stupid enough to rob the cafe, or was it Ross or Nicola trying to frame him & get him sent back to prison & out of Lewis's life?'
Others were equally convinced the show was leading fans in the wrong direction. 'After that ending, who else thinks it's cry wolf time again! (aka i don't think it was Kev),' one viewer posted. Another agreed: 'I do think they're trying to make us think Kev is robbing the cafe at the end though, but I'm not convinced it's him as he's meant to have changed. I think Nicola might be targeting him to get rid of him.'
Boiling Tensions Between Nicola and Kev
The theories come after tensions between Nicola and Kev reached boiling point. Kev, who recently changed his surname to Barton in a bid to strengthen his relationship with son Lewis, has struggled to win over those closest to him. Nicola has made no secret of her desire to see him gone, while Ross also remains deeply suspicious of Kev's intentions.
Lewis, however, has been determined to give his father a chance, creating a huge divide among those around him. That has left viewers wondering whether someone could be willing to go to extreme lengths to ensure Kev is forced out of the village for good. If fan theories are correct, the robbery may have less to do with money and far more to do with setting Kev up.
Emmerdale's History of Twists
Of course, Emmerdale has pulled off plenty of twists like this before, meaning the real culprit could still be someone completely unexpected, and the drama is only just getting started.
