Andrew Tate Rape Investigation Reopened by Police After Six-Year Hiatus
Police have officially relaunched a rape investigation into controversial influencer Andrew Tate, marking a significant development six years after the case was initially closed. Hertfordshire Constabulary announced the decision to reinvestigate allegations of rape and sexual assaults, which were first reported by three women and date back to the period between 2013 and 2015.
Victims' Long-Awaited Search for Justice
In a joint statement, the three women, who allege they are victims of Tate, expressed relief at the reopening of the investigation. They stated, 'It is long overdue for Hertfordshire Constabulary to reopen the investigation into our allegations of rape, sexual abuse and assault by Andrew Tate. We have never stopped our search for justice following what we believe was the police's failure to adequately investigate what happened between 2013 and 2015.' This move comes just one day after the Independent Office for Police Conduct indicated that a former detective constable could face gross misconduct proceedings for alleged failures in properly investigating the case initially.
Police Commitment to Thorough Investigation
Hertfordshire Constabulary emphasized its dedication to ensuring a comprehensive review of the serious allegations. In an official statement, the force declared, 'We are committed to doing what is right and ensuring that allegations of such a serious nature are properly, thoroughly and fully investigated, no matter how long ago they occurred.' The case was originally closed in 2019 after a four-year investigation, with the Crown Prosecution Service stating last September that the legal threshold for criminal charges had not been met at that time.
Legal Perspectives and Civil Proceedings
Matthew Jury, Managing Partner at McCue Jury & Partners, praised the women's perseverance, saying, 'These brave women deserve recognition for their relentless and prolonged struggle to ensure Andrew Tate faces justice. As we have been saying for years, there is evidence indicating that this investigation was not properly managed when they initially approached the police over ten years ago. Hopefully, this time it will be a proper and thorough investigation.' In addition to the criminal probe, the three women, along with a fourth, have taken their claims to the High Court in a civil trial scheduled for June this year.
Allegations and Denials in Court Documents
Court documents reveal disturbing details of the allegations against Tate, including accusations that he held a gun to a woman's face while threatening, 'you're going to do as I say or there'll be hell to pay.' One woman further alleges that Tate assaulted her with a belt and grabbed her by the throat on multiple occasions. Tate's lawyers have consistently and vehemently denied all claims, labeling them as 'false' and asserting that the women 'were not controlled and did not behave as though they were controlled' by him.
Broader Legal Challenges in Romania and UK
Andrew Tate is also embroiled in legal proceedings in Romania alongside his brother, Tristan Tate, where both men deny any wrongdoing. Following the conclusion of these proceedings, the brothers are due to be extradited to the UK after Bedfordshire Police secured a European arrest warrant for separate allegations of rape and human trafficking involving different women. These allegations, which the brothers 'unequivocally deny,' are said to date back to 2012-2015, adding another layer to the complex legal battles facing the influencer.
