In a surprising royal revelation, the Prince of Wales has been confirmed as a devoted fan of the BBC's smash-hit reality series, The Celebrity Traitors. The disclosure came from national treasure Sir Stephen Fry, who shared that the future King and his family were completely engrossed in the show's dramatic 2025 season.
A Royal Endorsement for the Hit Show
Sir Stephen Fry, 68, who appeared as a Faithful on the celebrity edition, made the revelation during an appearance on Good Morning Britain. He recounted a conversation with the Prince at the Royal Variety Performance, where the royal confessed his family's addiction to the programme.
"The Prince of Wales at the Royal Variety Performance said to me, 'We were locked into it'," Fry shared, highlighting the show's extraordinary cross-demographic appeal. The broadcaster added that he had actively told host Claudia Winkleman he did not want to be a Traitor, feeling he lacked the necessary cunning for the role of deceit.
Celebrity Players Reflect on the Game of Betrayal
The 2025 series, which concluded in a nail-biting finale, saw comedian Alan Carr emerge victorious. He successfully deceived fellow finalists, historian David Olusoga and actor Nick Mohammed, securing £87,500 for his chosen charity.
Other notable contestants included presenter Jonathan Ross, who was the first Traitor to be banished. Despite his strategic gameplay, Ross admitted he found the experience "quite unpleasant" due to the emotional toll of lying to 'lovely people'. However, he stated he had no regrets about taking part in what he called a 'once-in-a-lifetime experience'.
Sir Stephen also commented on fellow contestant David Olusoga's gameplay, noting that while the historian is 'hugely intelligent', the game requires a specific type of "cunning" intelligence that differs from academic prowess.
What's Next for The Traitors?
The phenomenon shows no sign of slowing down. The BBC has confirmed that the fourth civilian series of The Traitors will launch on New Year's Day, with 22 new contestants competing for a potential £120,000 prize. The broadcaster promises 'even more twists, turns, secrets, epic missions, deception, banishments and murders'.
Furthermore, a second series of The Celebrity Traitors has been greenlit, with rumours swirling that stars like Bob Mortimer and Daisy May Cooper could be in the lineup. Casting for the fifth civilian series is also currently open. The new episodes will be accompanied by the official spin-off show, Uncloaked, hosted by Ed Gamble.
The Traitors Series 4 begins on 1 January at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
