Prince Louis melted hearts at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as he sported a Wales cycling bucket hat during a rare family outing. The eight-year-old royal, dressed in the Beicio Cymru hat—Welsh for Wales Cycling—was all smiles as he joined his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and siblings at the Hydro arena for a netball semi-final.
A Royal Family Day Out
The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, as they are known in Scotland, brought Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, and a beaming Louis to watch the match. This marked the children's first official visit to Scotland, offering a chance for the family to bond before George heads to Eton College in September.
As the family exited the stadium, they were greeted by cheering crowds and met para powerlifting gold medallist Mark Swan and gymnast Reuben Ward. Ward, a gold-winning Scottish athlete, told PA: 'Coming into the Games, I was just hoping for the best and hopefully I could get some medals. Being in a position where I'm being chosen to meet the Prince of Wales, it's just a strange but incredible experience.'
Meeting Athletes and Mascots
The Commonwealth Games mascot Finnie added to the fun, high-fiving George, Charlotte, and Louis before giving the Princess of Wales a fist bump. The family then headed to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow's East End to watch cycling, where they even met the venue's namesake, Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy.
Royal Support for the Games
Other royals attending the Games included King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Duke of Edinburgh, who serves as vice patron of Commonwealth Sport. William and Kate are also scheduled to meet athletes supported by SportsAid, a charity Kate has patronized since 2013, and participants in the Team England Futures project.
The visit highlighted the royal family's commitment to celebrating athletic achievement and engaging with the Commonwealth community, all while showcasing a touch of Welsh pride through Louis's charming hat choice.
