King Charles III and Queen Camilla have begun their US state visit, meeting with Donald and Melania Trump at the White House. The visit, which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence, includes a series of official engagements and ceremonies.

Arrival in Washington

The royal couple arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, near Washington DC, where they were greeted by the US chief of protocol, Monica Crowley. They were then welcomed by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House.

White House Welcoming

Charles and Camilla toured the South Lawn with the Trumps, receiving posies from children of British military families based in the US. The group posed for photographs at the South Portico, and during the tour, they viewed a painting depicting the assassination attempt on Trump in 2024.

Garden Party at British Embassy

Later, the king and queen attended a garden party at the British embassy. Charles spoke with White House deputy chief of staff for policy, Stephen Miller, and other guests. Camilla engaged with Michelle DeLaune, chief executive of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Afternoon Tea with the Trumps

Donald and Melania Trump hosted the royal couple for afternoon tea at the White House. The two couples were photographed together, and Charles and Camilla also spoke with White House staff, including assistant pastry chef Carlo Figarella.

Embassy Farewell

Before departing the embassy, Charles and Camilla posed for photos outside with the British ambassador to the US, Christian Turner, and his wife, Claire Turner. Queen Camilla's brooch was noted as a highlight of her attire.

The red carpet was rolled away after the king and queen's arrival at Joint Base Andrews, marking the official start of their visit. The state visit continues with further engagements aimed at strengthening UK-US relations.
