Princess of Wales champions 'small acts of care' in Christmas letter
Kate's festive message highlights 'power of reaching out'

The Princess of Wales has penned a poignant festive message, highlighting the profound impact of "small acts of care" during a season that can feel fragmented for many. Her letter, written ahead of her fifth annual Together at Christmas carol service, will be shared with congregations at Westminster Abbey and across the UK.

The Essence of Christmas in Simple Gestures

In her letter, Kate reflects on the core meaning of the festive period. "At a time when life can sometimes feel fragmented or uncertain, the Christmas season invites us to remember the power of reaching out to one another with generosity of heart, understanding and hope," she writes.

She eloquently distills the spirit of the season, stating: "At its heart, Christmas speaks of love taking form in the simplest, most human ways. Not in sentimental or grand gestures, but gentle ones." The Princess goes on to list examples of these powerful, simple connections:

  • A moment of listening
  • A word of comfort
  • A friendly conversation
  • A helping hand
  • Presence

"These simple acts of care might seem small, but they contribute to the beautiful tapestry of life to which we all belong," she adds, emphasising their collective importance.

A Celebration of Community Heroes

The Together at Christmas carol service will be held at Westminster Abbey on Friday evening. Kate will be joined by Prince William and other members of the royal family. They will be amidst 1,600 guests, all recognised for their exceptional contributions to their communities.

In her letter, the Princess directly praises these individuals for their selfless efforts. "There is a softness to the season that reminds us of something easy to forget; that what we do matters," she writes. "Our words, our choices, and even the ways we look out for one another - they ripple outward, touching lives we may never see."

The event will feature a host of performers and speakers, including:

  • Hannah Waddingham
  • Bastille's Dan Smith
  • Griff and Katie Melua
  • Actors Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor
  • Comedian Babatunde Aleshe

Nationwide Festive Services

While the main service takes place in London, the spirit of the event will be echoed nationwide. Fifteen other towns and cities across the UK will host their own services, organised by lord-lieutenants and supported by The Royal Foundation. These locations include:

  • Armagh and Lanarkshire
  • Berkshire and Suffolk
  • Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire
  • The Isle of Wight and Worcestershire

The Westminster Abbey service is scheduled to be broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX on Christmas Eve, with a repeat on Christmas Day, allowing the nation to share in the message of community and compassion championed by the Princess of Wales.
