Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly at odds over their summer plans, with Harry eager to reconcile with his family and spend time at Balmoral Castle in Scotland so that his children, Archie and Lilibet, can create lasting memories with their grandfather, King Charles. Meghan, however, is said to prefer relaxing at their newly completed villa in Portugal.

Family tensions and security concerns

Harry has been estranged from his father and brother, Prince William, since stepping down as senior royals in 2020. The couple's children have not seen the king in person since 2022, during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. A source told Closer that while the Portuguese villa will serve as their base for travel, Harry is pushing for a family stay at Balmoral this summer. The insider claimed Harry hopes to arrange a private meeting with King Charles and is determined to heal the rift.

"In Harry's mind, it's the perfect setting for Charles to spend proper time with Archie and Lilibet," the source said. "Harry feels time is precious and that the children need to see their grandfather now. There's a growing urgency around wanting the children to have memories with Charles."

However, Meghan reportedly remains uncomfortable in Britain, citing security concerns for their children. After stepping back from royal duties, the couple lost taxpayer-funded police protection, and Harry lost a legal challenge to have it reinstated. He now pays for a private security team but says it lacks jurisdiction in the UK.

Strain on the couple and royal family dynamics

The insider added that the situation is causing strain between Harry and Meghan. Meanwhile, the royal family is reportedly anxious about the brothers being in the same room. William is said to be furious about Harry's past behavior, and Kate is "deeply uneasy" about the potential Balmoral visit. "They've made it clear they don't want a situation where Harry and Meghan slowly start drifting back into the fold," a source said.

Earlier this year, rumors suggested that King Charles extended an olive branch by inviting Harry and Meghan to stay at Balmoral. However, William strongly opposed the offer, believing it is too much too soon. Charles, aware of his limited time, reportedly prioritizes family over protocol.

Harry is set to return to England in 2027 for the Invictus Games in Birmingham, but the immediate summer plans remain uncertain. The couple must decide soon, as Archie and Lilibet finish school in June.
