Edmonton Leisure Centre reopens after £7.5m refurb

A major north London sports and swimming facility has thrown its doors back open to the public after a comprehensive two-year, multi-million-pound renovation.

A Major Investment in Community Health

The Edmonton Leisure Centre in the London Borough of Enfield has completed a full-scale refurbishment, with the final phase—the training pool—now welcoming swimmers. The centre initially closed in December 2023, a move that coincided with Enfield Council's decision to transfer the management of its leisure services from Fusion Lifestyle to Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL).

What was planned as a standard inspection upon taking over the facility quickly revealed significant underlying maintenance issues. This discovery escalated the project from a simple refresh to a vital repair and modernisation mission for the council.

Inside the £7.5 Million 'Glow-Up'

The scale of the investment totals a substantial £7.5 million. The works have comprehensively updated the centre's core offerings. The 25-metre main pool has been fully redone, while the separate training pool and splash pool areas have received a complete transformation.

These learner-friendly zones now boast brand-new tiling and modern LED lighting. The training pool is specifically designed as a "warm, shallow environment for building water confidence", aiding everyone from babies to adults taking their first strokes. The centre's non-swimming facilities, which reopened earlier in April 2025, were also upgraded as part of the wider project.

Community Pride and Official Celebrations

Councillor Sabri Ozaydin, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Climate Action, emphasised the centre's importance. "We know how important Edmonton Leisure Centre is to the health, wellbeing and social life of local people," he stated, "so we are delighted that this major renovation project is now complete... We have invested not only in this facility but also the health and wellbeing of the local community, who now have a leisure centre they can be really proud of."

The official launch was marked with a celebration on Tuesday 2 December 2025. The event was attended by Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Kieran Bird, who helped commemorate the centre's new chapter serving the residents of Edmonton and the wider Enfield area.
