Police have confirmed that a woman shot dead outside a bar in Sheffield was an innocent bystander. The incident occurred outside the One Four One bar on West Street in the city centre at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Monday. Officers arrived at the scene to find the 30-year-old victim suffering from serious injuries; she later died in hospital. Formal identification has yet to take place, but her next of kin have been notified.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Chief Superintendent Jamie Henderson, district commander for Sheffield, stated: “Following extensive inquiries over the last 36 hours, we believe the victim was an innocent bystander who was on a night out in our city to celebrate the bank holiday weekend.” He added that gun crime causes devastation within families and communities, and that an innocent woman who should have been able to safely enjoy a night out has been killed.
South Yorkshire Police have released a CCTV image of a white Audi believed to be involved in the incident. They are appealing for anyone who was on West Street or Eldon Street in the early hours of Monday to come forward with information.
Three individuals have been arrested on suspicion of murder: a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were arrested near Stockport in Greater Manchester in the early hours of Monday, and a second 30-year-old man was arrested in Sheffield. All three remain in police custody for questioning.
Appeal for Information
Chief Superintendent Henderson urged the public: “If you were out in Sheffield in the early hours of Monday morning, please take a look at our website or Facebook page and report anything you saw to us.” He also acknowledged that some community members may know who is responsible but feel too scared to come forward, encouraging them to report what they know.
