Coronation Street spoilers follow for Monday’s (May 4) episode, which is now available to stream on ITVX. Murder week has concluded, leaving Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) dead beneath the scaffolding on the Street. However, another body was feared discovered after a violent confrontation with paedophile Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) and an emotional exchange with her grandson, Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale). Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) was found by two young girls, lying motionless on the ground.
Actress Pauline McLynn had previously hinted at the character's potential demise, stating, 'I will say this, when I joined the show, I was told that the plan for the character was to kill her. So we shall see!' She added, 'I think you’ll find when you watch all of the five stories that it’s very possible more than one person is dead... And the third thing, is that the wonderful Kate Brooks said to me once, you’re going to get a set of scripts and it looks like you’re dead – and you might be. I just wanted to warn you! We don’t know.'
Despite the ominous hints, Maggie is very much alive. In today’s episode, she is awake and awaiting a cup of tea from Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker), with Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) by her bedside. The conversation reveals that Maggie suffered a heart attack. She also discloses to Ben the truth about Megan’s revelation: Maggie had an abortion, not a miscarriage as Megan claimed. Will, learning this, is devastated as his belief in Megan crumbles.
Will remains in denial, avoiding Ben and insisting the baby is not his. Eva is shocked by the truth, though her previous kidnapping involving Leanne and Toyah Battersby (Jane Danson and Georgia Taylor) has created tension with Ben. Despite efforts from Eva and Ollie, Will remains unreachable, the damage from Megan too fresh.
Maggie now faces two threats: Megan and Melanie (Cindy Humphreys) know her secret that she accidentally killed her first husband. Will they exploit her heart attack to reveal all?
