Abbey Clancy 'physically ill' after finding Peter Crouch's celeb crush
Abbey Clancy 'physically ill' over Peter Crouch's celeb crush

Abbey Clancy has revealed she was left feeling 'physically ill' after secretly going through her husband Peter Crouch's phone and discovering his long-held crush on a Gladiators star. The model, 40, admitted to snooping through the former England footballer's messages, a decision she says she regretted after finding something she would have been happier not knowing.

Podcast confession sparks debate

Speaking on the latest episode of their podcast, The Therapy Crouch, Abbey casually confessed: 'I went through your phone.' Peter, 45, immediately pointed out: 'Which you shouldn't do.' But Abbey insisted: 'Everyone does that, every girl does that.'

According to the mother-of-four, her detective work has occasionally proved rather illuminating. 'But I find out things from you by doing that,' she said, before revealing one particular discovery resulted in Peter receiving the silent treatment for two days.

The Gladiators crush revelation

'I found out you had this crush on Jet from the Gladiators, which I didn't speak to him for two days after,' Abbey recalled. Peter attempted to diffuse the situation by pointing out: 'Abbey, she's like 60.' But that did little to ease his wife's feelings.

'I was like, "I don't care, it made me physically ill." I was so upset,' she admitted. Jet, whose real name is Diane Youdale, became one of the most recognisable faces of the original Gladiators after joining the ITV series in 1992. She remained on the programme until 1996, becoming a favourite among viewers – one of whom, apparently, was a teenage Peter Crouch.

Peter's defence and further discoveries

The former Liverpool striker attempted to defend himself by pointing out that his crush considerably predated his relationship with Abbey. 'But I'm allowed to fancy someone from 25 years ago…' he protested. Abbey responded: 'I know, but still knowing my husband fancies someone else.' Peter then clarified just how ancient the offending crush actually was, explaining: 'That was well before you as well, I was around 14 when I was watching Jet.'

'So!' Abbey fired back. Unfortunately for Peter, Jet wasn't the only unwelcome discovery Abbey made during her phone investigation. 'And at the same time I find out you're planning this golf trip,' she added. Peter explained that he prefers to get his plans organised before informing his wife, saying he likes to 'have all his ducks in a row'.

Abbey had a slightly different interpretation of the strategy, accusing him of waiting until the last possible moment to break the news. 'But you don't tell me before the day before, Pete,' she complained. Peter then rather bravely explained his reasoning: 'Would I want a month of hell or a day of hell?'

Their relationship and family life

The couple, who married in 2011, have become known for sharing the more chaotic details of their relationship and family life on their podcast. They share four children: daughters Sophia, 15, and Liberty, 11, and sons Johnny, eight, and Jack, seven.
