Sudan Massacre Sparks Urgent UK Call for Ceasefire as Foreign Secretary Demands Action
UK demands Sudan ceasefire after massacre reports

Britain's new Foreign Secretary David Lammy has issued an urgent demand for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan following disturbing reports of a mass killing that claimed more than 100 lives.

The diplomatic push comes after horrifying accounts emerged from the village of Wad al-Noura in Gezira state, where activists and local groups reported a devastating attack that resulted in widespread civilian casualties.

Emergency UN Action

Mr Lammy revealed he has instructed UK officials at the United Nations to urgently pursue a Security Council session to address the escalating crisis. "I am appalled by credible reports of another massacre of over 100 civilians in Sudan," the Foreign Secretary stated.

He emphasised the urgent need for action, adding: "The UK at the UN Security Council has called for an emergency session and we continue to push for an immediate ceasefire and cross-border humanitarian access."

Growing International Pressure

The violence represents one of the deadliest incidents in recent months within Sudan's ongoing conflict, which has created one of the world's most severe humanitarian disasters. More than eight million people have been displaced from their homes, with millions facing acute hunger.

The conflict pits the Sudanese army against the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with both sides accused of committing war crimes and targeting civilian populations.

Humanitarian Catastrophe

International aid organisations have repeatedly warned about the deteriorating situation in Sudan, where access to basic necessities like food, water and medical care has become increasingly scarce.

The UK's intervention signals a renewed diplomatic effort to address a crisis that has largely slipped from international headlines despite its devastating human cost.

As the death toll continues to rise and humanitarian conditions worsen, international pressure is mounting for concrete action to protect civilians and facilitate desperately needed aid delivery.
