Prince William Honors Army Medic Cpl Lucy Wilde Found Dead in Barracks
Prince William has paid a heartfelt tribute to a young army medic who was found deceased in her barracks earlier this month. Cpl Lucy Wilde, aged 25, passed away on February 5, 2026, at her military accommodation in Warminster, Wiltshire. The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is currently active.
Royal Tribute to a Courageous Medic
In a statement shared on social media, Prince William conveyed his profound sorrow over Wilde's untimely death. He fondly recalled meeting her during her service with the Welsh Guards, noting her unmistakable warmth and compassion. "I remember our meeting during her time with the Welsh Guards, where her warmth and compassion were unmistakable. She served with courage and distinction as a medic and sought always to help others. I send my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends," the Prince stated.
Wilde, who gained attention by posting videos on TikTok documenting her daily life in the army, had an eight-year military career. She served with the Welsh Guards until December 2025 before being promoted to corporal and transferring to the Royal Yorkshire Regiment.
Family and Regimental Tributes Highlight Her Character
Her brother, Josh Wilde, also paid a moving tribute, describing her as "strength wrapped in softness." He emphasized that she served with courage and pride, lived with resilience, and cherished simple pleasures like long walks with her dog, nature, books, and the freedom of the outdoors. "She had a warmth and loyalty that was rare. A heart that gave even when she had been hurt," he added.
The Welsh Guards issued a statement commending Wilde's exceptional service and character. They highlighted her rare ability to uplift those around her and recalled a specific incident in the Falklands where she demonstrated outstanding courage. During a mass casualty event involving an overturned vehicle, Wilde was the first on the scene, providing critical aid to injured guardsmen. "Her actions that day were nothing short of outstanding, and she was rightly commended for her courage and professionalism," the regiment noted.
Additionally, the Welsh Guards described Wilde as popular, genuine, and deeply respected. "In the short time she spent with us, she quickly became part of the Welsh Guards family – not just as an exceptional medic, but through the bonds of friendship she formed in the Welsh Guards, along with the warmth, humour and professionalism she brought to all who worked with her," they stated.
