Judge and Wife in Stable Condition After Attack
Steven Meyer, a Tippecanoe superior court judge, and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, were both injured in the attack on Sunday afternoon but are now reported to be in stable condition. According to official statements, Judge Meyer sustained an injury to his arm, while Kimberly Meyer suffered a hip injury from the shooting.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the residential neighbourhood, located approximately 60 miles north-west of Indianapolis, where they discovered the couple with their wounds. Both individuals received immediate medical treatment at the scene, and law enforcement personnel recovered shell casings as part of their initial evidence gathering.
Active Investigation Involving Multiple Agencies
The Lafayette police department has confirmed that the investigation remains highly active and involves collaboration between local, state, and federal agencies. At this stage, authorities have not released any information regarding a potential motive for the attack or a description of possible suspects.

In a statement released on Monday, Kimberly Meyer expressed her gratitude towards the investigators, officers, and medical professionals who assisted her and her husband. She stated that she has "great confidence" in the ongoing investigative efforts.

Loretta H Rush, the state supreme court chief justice, issued a letter to judges throughout the state, urging them to "please remain vigilant in your own security". She highlighted the importance of safety for judges who handle over one million cases annually, stating that any violence against a judge or their family is completely unacceptable.
