Ukraine's air force said on Monday it had shot down 30 out of 38 Russian drones launched overnight, with four more lost over Belarus and four failing to reach their targets.
Air defense response
The air force reported that the drones were intercepted over the Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. The remaining four drones were lost over Belarus, the statement said, without providing further details.
According to the Ukrainian military, Russia also launched two Kh-59 guided missiles, which were both successfully intercepted.
Impact on infrastructure
No immediate damage or casualties were reported from the overnight attacks. However, regional authorities warned that falling debris from downed drones could pose risks to civilians.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, governor Serhiy Lysak said that air defenses had destroyed several drones, and there were no reports of injuries or damage to critical infrastructure.
Continued Russian strikes
The overnight drone attacks are part of a sustained Russian campaign targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure and military positions. Ukraine has been calling for more air defense systems from its Western allies to counter the ongoing aerial threats.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated the need for enhanced air defense capabilities in his nightly address, stating that every downed drone saves lives and prevents damage to essential facilities.
