Trump: Iran Wants US to Open Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has claimed in a recent Truth Social post that Iran has "just informed" Washington that they are in a "state of collapse." Trump further alleged that Iran wants the United States to open the Strait of Hormuz "as soon as possible" as they attempt to "figure out" their "leadership situation." He expressed belief that this is achievable.

These claims remain unverified, and Iran has not yet commented on them. Trump did not specify who the US has been communicating with in Iran, as he portrays the regime as being in chaos. Reports indicate that Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly severely injured, and lawmakers are divided over negotiations regarding Tehran's nuclear programme.

According to regional officials, Iran presented a new proposal on Monday for a ceasefire deal that focuses on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, postponing discussions on nuclear weapons, missiles, sanctions, and other matters. Iranian officials have indicated that Tehran would be willing to discuss the nuclear issue eventually, but only after the US blockade of Iran's ports is lifted.
