British Transport Police (BTP) have launched an appeal for witnesses and video footage after a man was left with a fractured skull and an eye socket fracture following an assault at the BrewDog pub in Waterloo station. The incident occurred shortly after England's winning World Cup match against Mexico on July 6, with the assault taking place at around 4:12am.
Altercation Escalates After Final Whistle
The trouble began when two men quarrelled during the game. Tensions escalated minutes after the final whistle, leading to one man being assaulted by another inside the venue. The victim sustained a fracture around his eye socket as well as injuries to his skull.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the initial fight. One was arrested on suspicion of common assault and the other on suspicion of affray. Both have been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue, according to a BTP statement released this afternoon.
Police Appeal for Footage and Witnesses
Detectives are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the subsequent assault or who has video footage of the incident to come forward. The appeal comes as part of an ongoing investigation into the violence that broke out in the popular railway station pub.
Anyone with information is urged to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 56 of 6 July. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Context of the Incident
The incident took place during a period of heightened emotions following England's victory over Mexico in the World Cup. The match, which drew large crowds to pubs across London, saw celebrations but also isolated incidents of disorder.
BTP has not released further details about the victim's condition or the nature of the assault, but the severity of the injuries underscores the potential consequences of alcohol-fuelled violence.
Authorities are particularly interested in any mobile phone footage that may have been captured by other pubgoers during the altercation. This footage could prove crucial in identifying the assailant and establishing the sequence of events.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are treating the matter with seriousness given the significant injuries sustained by the victim.
