Three individuals have been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal stabbing at a retail park in Croydon, south London. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 15, leaving a young man dead and two others injured.

Police Respond to Early Morning Stabbing

The Metropolitan Police were called to reports of a stabbing at Valley Retail Park at approximately 1:15 am on Sunday morning. Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene on Hesterman Way to find three men suffering from stab wounds. All three were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Tragic Outcome and Arrests

Despite medical efforts, a 22-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The two other men, both aged 21, were arrested on suspicion of affray. One of these men remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, while the other is currently in police custody.

Later on Sunday afternoon, police made further arrests in connection with the incident. Two women, both 25 years old, and a 28-year-old man were taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Additionally, two more women, aged 21 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of affray. The 21-year-old woman has been released on bail pending further investigation, while the 22-year-old woman remains detained.

Investigation Underway

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim's family. "Our thoughts remain with the victim's family at this hugely difficult time," Gammampila stated. "We cannot begin to imagine what they are going through."

The detective acknowledged the distress this incident has caused within the local community and assured that officers are working diligently to piece together the events that transpired. "My officers continue to work at pace to unpick the events that unfolded and to apprehend those responsible," Gammampila added.
