A teenage boy has been hailed as a hero after confronting a knife-wielding attacker outside a Cambridgeshire barbershop, in a dramatic incident that began with a violent assault on a train.
The confrontation unfolded in Huntingdon on Sunday afternoon, when a 15-year-old youth faced down an armed man moments after he had allegedly stabbed multiple passengers aboard a Thameslink service.
Chaos on the Rails
The terrifying sequence of events began aboard a train travelling between St Neots and Huntingdon. According to witnesses and police reports, a man suddenly produced a knife and began attacking fellow passengers without provocation.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving multiple distress calls from terrified travellers. The train was brought to an emergency stop as victims received urgent medical attention for their injuries.
Barbershop Standoff
As police descended on the station, the suspect fled the scene, only to reappear minutes later outside a local barbershop on Huntingdon High Street. It was here that the teenage boy, whose identity remains protected, demonstrated remarkable bravery.
"He stood his ground and confronted the man, who was still armed," one witness reported. "It was incredibly courageous - he put himself in harm's way to protect others."
The standoff allowed police to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect. A 57-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of multiple serious offences and remains in custody.
Community in Shock
Local residents expressed both shock and admiration for the teenager's actions. "For someone so young to show that level of courage is extraordinary," said a shopkeeper near the scene. "This is normally such a quiet area - we never expect anything like this."
Police have confirmed that multiple victims were treated for stab wounds, with two people requiring hospitalisation. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
