Teenager Appears in Court Charged with Murder of 14-Year-Old Boy in Woolwich
A teenager accused of murdering a 14-year-old boy who was shot dead in a stairwell in South East London has made his first court appearance. Eghosa Ogbebor was fatally shot on Thursday, April 2, in Lord Warwick Street, Woolwich, sparking a major police investigation.

A 16-year-old boy from Romford, east London, appeared via video-link from HMP Felton at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, charged with the murder of Eghosa Ogbebor. The court heard that police were called to Woolwich at around 3.40pm on April 2 after reports of the shooting.
Prosecuting, William Emlyn Jones KC detailed the alleged events, stating: "It was there at the top of the stairwell that the defendant aimed and fired at the victim, shooting him once in the chest, causing an injury from which he died." The prosecution claims the 16-year-old shot Mr Ogbebor, who was also armed, in the chest following a chase.
Arrests and Investigation Timeline
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was first arrested on April 4 and released on bail. He was rearrested on April 9 and formally charged with murder the following day, according to police statements. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that their investigation remains ongoing, with multiple arrests made in connection to the case.
In addition to the 16-year-old defendant, officers have arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man in Woolwich on suspicion of murder, along with a 46-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three individuals have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Two boys, aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man were arrested on April 3 in connection with the attack and have also been bailed. A further 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder on April 10, highlighting the complexity of the investigation.
