Hong Kong Skyscraper Fire Kills Four as Flames Engulf Bamboo Scaffolding
Hong Kong Skyscraper Fire Kills Four in Tai Po

A devastating fire has torn through multiple skyscrapers in Hong Kong, claiming at least four lives including one firefighter, after flames rapidly spread across bamboo scaffolding surrounding the high-rise residential buildings.

Rapid Inferno in Residential District

The blaze erupted on Tuesday afternoon in the Wang Fuk Court housing estate located in Hong Kong's Tai Po district. Dramatic footage from the scene captured an intense and fast-moving fire, with multiple plumes of dark smoke billowing into the sky.

According to the city's Fire Services Department, the emergency was quickly upgraded to the second highest level of severity as the situation escalated. The South China Morning Post reported that at least three skyscrapers had been affected by the inferno, with terrifying videos showing burning sections of scaffolding collapsing to the ground below.

Community Reaction and Criticism

Local residents expressed frustration and disappointment with the emergency response. Mrs Poon, a resident in her sixties, questioned why authorities hadn't deployed more aggressive measures.

"When there's a wildfire, they will deploy helicopters and drop water bombs, but why is there no such deployment and how can they leave other buildings burning?" she said. "The community is so close to the fire station and we thought the fire could be put out soon, but now the fire has spread. I'm so disappointed."

Another resident who rushed home from work after hearing about the blaze described the scene as "chaotic" and noted the absence of clear instructions from government authorities.

Ongoing Investigation and Response

The tragedy has raised serious questions about fire safety procedures in densely populated urban areas and the use of bamboo scaffolding in construction projects. Emergency services continue to work at the scene as investigations into the cause of the fire begin.

This incident represents one of the most significant building fires in Hong Kong in recent years, highlighting the particular dangers posed by construction materials in high-rise environments. The community awaits further updates as authorities work to secure the affected buildings and support displaced residents.
