Corrie child rushed to hospital after black mould exposure

Coronation Street newcomer Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) is set to face serious consequences after young Alfie Franklin is rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties caused by black mould in his flat. The charming but manipulative landlord is revealed to be the owner of the damp-ridden property, leaving Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) horrified.

Idris Nazir's dark side emerges

Idris arrived in Weatherfield as the suave cousin of Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), quickly winning over Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and playing the hero at Speed Daal. However, his nice guy act has crumbled. Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) caught Idris pinning a man named Damo against a wall, demanding money. Idris later offered Brody work at his property agency to cover up the incident. He has also shown controlling behaviour toward Leanne, turning off her phone during a romantic moment to avoid interruptions from her sister Toyah.

Abi Webster discovers the truth

Abi has been struggling to contact her landlord about damp in her flat, leaving messages with no response. In Speed Daal, a bouquet arrives from Idris, but when Abi hears his phone ring, she realises he is her landlord. That night, Abi tucks a coughing Alfie into bed, unaware that black mould is growing under it. Alfie wakes up struggling to breathe, and Abi panics, calling Kevin (Michael Le Vell) to drive them to A&E.

Hospital diagnosis and fallout

At the hospital, a consultant tells Abi that Alfie's breathing difficulties are a direct result of the mould in his bedroom. The doctor advises her to find a new home. Alfie is kept in ICU overnight for observation. Meanwhile, Idris and Brody discover the mould at the flat. Idris rushes to the hospital, but his reception is likely to be hostile. Leanne and Alya point out that whoever Idris bought the flat from must have known about the damp, raising questions about his responsibility.

According to executive producer Kate Brooks, Idris is 'not without an edge' and 'certainly no pushover'. This incident proves his darker side has serious consequences, putting a child's life at risk.
