Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has revealed he was stabbed in the stomach during a holiday in Madrid. The 61-year-old choreographer recounted the terrifying ordeal on his new podcast, Judgemental, with co-host and fellow Strictly star Anton Du Beke.
Attack in Madrid
Revel Horwood described being attacked with a razor blade while returning from a club at around 2am. He said it was 'stinking hot' and he was 'slashed' in the stomach. The attacker also stole his jewellery and left him with burn marks on his neck.
The incident occurred when he was living in Paris and visiting Madrid. After the attack, he returned to Paris, where he was subjected to a strip search by French authorities. He said he hadn't shaved and 'did look a bit of a wreck', and the search left him completely naked as they looked for drugs.
Strip search in Paris
Revel Horwood told Du Beke that the French officers searched him 'down to literally nothing' and even checked 'up my bottom, everywhere'. He described the whole experience as 'horrific'.
The star began his dancing career at the Lido de Paris on the Champs-Élysées in his early twenties. He told Virgin Radio in 2022 that he thought, 'Well, 23, I've got a great body. This isn't going to last forever. And I thought: Well, I may as well show it off in Paris.'
Other holiday nightmares
Revel Horwood also shared other travel disasters. He once flew to Mombasa in Kenya, only to find his hotel had burnt down before his arrival. He also recounted a 'very romantic cruise down the River Nile' that ended badly: passengers, including himself, ate off chicken the night before their flight home and were horrendously ill with salmonella. 'It was all good fun until the flight', he remarked.
The podcast Judgemental is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and Rayo. Revel Horwood and Du Beke have been on Strictly Come Dancing since it began in 2004.
