Police have launched an urgent manhunt for a 'violent offender' after a woman was sexually assaulted in southwest London. The attack occurred in West Barnes shortly before midnight on Thursday, prompting an increased police presence in the area.

The Metropolitan Police reported that the woman was subjected to a 'serious' assault. Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Roberts, who leads the rape and serious sexual assault teams in southwest London, provided a detailed description of the suspect: approximately 5ft 9in tall, aged around 30, with brown, medium-to-long hair and brown eyes. He was wearing jeans, a belt with a gold buckle, black trainers, and a black padded coat. The suspect spoke with an accent and may be of West Asian or Eastern European heritage.
The suspect was riding a pedal-assisted e-bike with a green and black delivery box on the rear, and wore a white helmet. Police believe he may be using the bike as part of a delivery service, but have not confirmed any specific employer.

Scotland Yard confirmed that 'urgent enquiries are ongoing' and that local residents can expect to see additional officers patrolling the area over the coming days. No arrests have been made so far. DCI Roberts also highlighted the suspect's distinctive mode of transport: 'The man was wearing a white helmet and was riding a pedal-assisted e-bike with a green/black delivery box on the rear.'

Police are particularly interested in any sightings near Meadowsweet Close or the nearby playing fields. DCI Roberts said, 'I would encourage anyone who remembers seeing anything out of the ordinary near Meadowsweet Close or the nearby playing fields to come forward to police. Any piece of information could be vital to our investigation.'
She acknowledged the community's concerns: 'We understand incidents of this nature cause significant concern within the community, and we are deploying additional officers in the area to provide reassurance and support.'
