Tragic Loss of Leicester Mum After Workplace Heart Attack
A devoted mother from Leicester has tragically passed away after suffering a sudden heart attack while working at the nursery within Next's corporate headquarters. Jodie Green, aged 35 and residing in Braunstone, fell critically ill on Wednesday, January 7, during her shift at the clothing retailer's main office.
Emergency Response and Hospitalisation
Colleagues in the nursery immediately administered CPR upon discovering Jodie in distress, continuing their efforts until emergency services arrived at the scene. She was swiftly transported to Glenfield Hospital for urgent medical care.
Despite being placed on life support, Jodie sustained severe brain damage due to the cardiac event. After twelve days, the difficult decision was made to withdraw life support, yet she demonstrated remarkable resilience by surviving for an additional five days with her partner James and entire family vigilantly by her bedside.
Remembering a Bubbly and Caring Character
Jodie passed away peacefully at approximately 2pm on Saturday, January 24, surrounded by loved ones. Her family fondly remembers her as a vibrant, loving individual whose infectious smile brightened every room.
Her sister Emma expressed profound gratitude towards the nursery staff, stating: 'The fantastic effort of the nursery staff gave us all 17 more days with our beloved Jodie, giving her every chance possible and being able to surround her with love.'
A Life Dedicated to Family and Children
Emma highlighted Jodie's passion for her role as a nursery nurse, particularly enjoying storytime with preschool-aged children. 'We read her many books at her bedside, and she passed away listening to her mum read The Gruffalo to her for the 1000th time,' she shared emotionally.
Jodie embraced outdoor adventures, from local parks to countryside hikes with family and friends, living by her personal motto of live, laugh, love. Her sister emphasised that family extended beyond blood relations, encompassing close friendships that shared holidays and celebrations together.
Legacy of Generosity and Community Support
In a testament to her caring nature, Jodie was a registered organ donor, a decision that brought comfort to her family. Emma remarked: 'Jodie, being Jodie, was a registered organ donor, which was wonderful to learn and did not come as a surprise due to her caring personality.'
To assist with funeral expenses, Emma established a GoFundMe page with an initial target of £2,500. The campaign has since garnered overwhelming community support, raising over £19,000. Emma expressed being speechless at the generosity, viewing the contributions as a mark of respect for Jodie's impact on numerous lives.
'We view this as a mark of respect and confirmation of just how many lives Jodie has touched and find a warmth beyond words that helps to ease our heartbreak and deepest sorrow. Jodie will be loved forever,' she concluded.
