Nicole Beling, a 60-year-old mother reported missing in Croydon, south London, has been found dead inside her home in Dittoncroft Close, near Lloyd Park. The discovery was made on the morning of July 17, after police were alerted by a family member at around 12:05am that same day.
Arrest and release
A 61-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He was subsequently released under investigation, but was re-arrested on August 1 and has since been bailed. The Metropolitan Police have stated that Nicole's cause of death remains unexplained, prompting a public appeal for information.
Family tribute
Nicole's sister, Suze Bonds, paid an emotional tribute on Facebook, describing her sibling as 'beautiful' and recalling their close bond. "We knew each other's deepest secrets and were always there for each other through thick and thin," she wrote in July. "I can't believe I will never see you again, share any more laughs, which we did so much when we were together. No more partying, no more hugs. I will miss that laugh and don't think my life will be the same ever again, you have taken a piece of my heart with you."
Police investigation
Nicole had been classified as a high-risk missing person, a designation that requires 'immediate deployment' of police resources, according to the College of Policing. Factors such as the risk of crime, exploitation, or harm are considered in such cases.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell said: "A formal murder investigation has not been launched at this time and we are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances surrounding Nicole's sad death. We want to hear from anyone who knew Nicole or may have information that could assist the investigation – and help us find answers for her family. My thoughts remain with Nicole's family and loved ones."
