Trevin Campbell has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of 30 years for the murder of Gary Mayhew, who was shot dead outside a silent disco in Brixton in October 2021. The sentence was handed down on Tuesday, August 25, following a guilty verdict last week.
Murder outside Brixton silent disco
Gary Mayhew, 32, was shot around 6am on October 21, 2021, shortly after leaving the silent disco. He was rushed to hospital but died the same day from his injuries.
Four days after the murder, Campbell was identified as a suspect and arrested as he was boarding a flight from Gatwick Airport to Jamaica. However, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) determined that the case could not proceed to trial at that time.
Arrest after extensive investigation
Detectives continued to gather evidence, including detailed CCTV analysis, forensic examination, and expert witness testimony. This led to Campbell being re-arrested in December last year.
Detective Inspector Emma Sharp, who led the investigation, said: "This has been a complex and extensive investigation spanning several years. Our officers remained committed to securing justice for Gary and his family and continued to pursue every available line of enquiry to build the strongest possible evidential case."

Sharp added: "Through detailed CCTV analysis, forensic examination and expert witness evidence, we were able to demonstrate Campbell's responsibility for Gary's murder and ensure he was brought to justice."
She also noted: "Our thoughts remain with Gary's family and friends, who have shown remarkable strength throughout this process. The use of firearms on London's streets has devastating consequences for victims, families and communities. This conviction demonstrates our determination to tackle gun crime and hold those responsible fully accountable."
Campbell will now serve at least 30 years in prison before being eligible for parole.
