A judge in Los Angeles has granted Lil Nas X, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, entry into a mental health diversion program that could result in the dismissal of felony charges related to an alleged attack on police officers. The decision, made by Judge Alan Schneider on Monday, offers the rapper a path to clear his record if he adheres to a treatment plan and remains law-abiding for two years.

Under the terms of the program, formally known as postponement of prosecution probation, Lil Nas X must complete a mental health treatment regimen and avoid any legal violations. The court determined that the incident, which occurred in August last year, stemmed from his recently diagnosed bipolar disorder and represented a deviation from his typical behavior. Additionally, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or making threats of violence.
Authorities allege that the 26-year-old artist was walking naked down a street in LA's San Fernando Valley when he charged at officers responding to reports about him. A criminal complaint states that three officers sustained injuries during the confrontation. Prior to the police intervention, photos and video footage showed him in the street wearing only white briefs and boots.
