The family of a 16-year-old girl who was fatally stabbed in what has been described as a dispute over a boy has paid a heartfelt tribute to their beloved 'princess'. Chloe Watson Dransfield was discovered with fatal injuries on Kennerleigh Avenue in Austhorpe, Leeds, at 6am on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Family's Emotional Tribute to 'Princess' Chloe
In a poignant statement, Chloe's family expressed their profound grief, saying, 'My beautiful princess Chloe. I cannot put into words how I feel that you are not here with me. You are my life, my world, my best friend and I know that I am yours. I cannot live without you – I need you.' They described her as 'stunning, confident, loyal, honest and my family-oriented princess,' noting that her bubbly personality lit up any room she entered. The family added, 'There's a big hole in my heart that can never be filled. Your two sisters and big brother will always love and miss you to infinity. You will always and forever be in our hearts.'
Neighbor's Attempt to Save Chloe
Wayne Mallows, a 64-year-old neighbor, recounted how he tried to save Chloe after being alerted by a dog walker around 5:50am on Saturday. He found a neighbor performing CPR on the teenager on the pavement and took over until paramedics arrived ten minutes later. Mallows stated, 'She had been stabbed in the back and there was quite a bit of blood. Her eyes were just blank.' His efforts highlight the desperate attempts to save the young girl's life in the critical moments after the attack.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, leading the investigation, confirmed that five teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Initially, four individuals—two women aged 18, a 19-year-old man, and an 18-year-old boy—were taken into custody over the weekend. A fifth suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested on Monday. All remain in police custody as authorities work to establish the full circumstances of the incident. DCI Entwistle emphasized, 'Our thoughts remain with Chloe's family at this incredibly difficult time. Our specially-trained officers continue to provide them with support.'
Community and Family Reactions
Chloe's cousin, Shantelle Watson, set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs, writing, 'My 16-year-old cousin's life was sadly taken in tragedy. 16 years young. She didn't even make it to her 18th – her whole life was taken in a flash over a boy.' She described Chloe as 'so full of life, such an innocent, beautiful soul taken too soon,' and noted that her mother is distraught, leaving behind two younger siblings. The community has been shaken by the violent loss, with neighbors and family members expressing shock and sorrow over the senseless act.
Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Entwistle has issued an appeal for anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation. The police are urging witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the events leading to Chloe's death to contact them promptly. This appeal aims to gather crucial details that could help bring justice for Chloe and her grieving family.
The tragic incident underscores broader concerns about youth violence and disputes escalating into fatal confrontations. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on supporting Chloe's family and understanding the motives behind this heartbreaking crime.
