The opening date for north London's new Waitrose supermarket has been revealed. The upscale food store will open its doors on Cricklewood Broadway on Thursday, October 22. Customers will be welcomed from 8am following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with tastings and giveaways planned for the day.
Store Details and Facilities
The store will occupy the ground floor of the new Eden NW2 development, according to plans approved by Barnet Council. The 18,000 square foot outlet will sell the full line of Waitrose products, though specific interior details have not yet been disclosed.
Approved plans indicate a basement car park for customers, along with a quiet room, customer toilets, and back office facilities including a training room and dining room for staff. The development sits on the site of the legendary Irish ballroom, The Galtymore.
Investment and Job Creation
The John Lewis Partnership, which owns Waitrose, has stated that their multi-million pound investment in the new store is part of a £1 billion investment programme aimed at reaching "more customers in new areas." The store is located minutes from Cricklewood train station and will create new local jobs, with 'Waitrose Partners' trained to provide the highest standard of customer service.
This Cricklewood location marks the second Waitrose opening this year, following the launch of Waitrose Chelmer Village in July. The Eden NW2 site had originally been leased by Asda, but news broke in June that Waitrose had taken over the lease.
North London Expansion
Waitrose already operates supermarkets at Brent Cross and John Barnes on Finchley Road. It is understood that the company identified an established north London customer base that would welcome another store closer to home. The new store is expected to strengthen Waitrose's presence in the area and provide residents with greater access to its products.
