Hollyoaks is set to break the nation’s heart next week when Diane Hutchinson, played by Alex Fletcher, dies in devastating scenes. The landlady of the Dog in the Pond pub has been a pivotal part of the Channel 4 soap for nearly two decades, having made her debut 16 years ago.
Diane’s Final Days
Diane was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer earlier this year, and despite attempting chemotherapy, she suffered a reaction to the drugs and decided to stop treatment to preserve her quality of life. In emotional scenes last week, she confided in Nancy Osborne that she had only weeks left to live.
A Heartbreaking Farewell
As her life nears its end, Diane records nursery rhymes for her daughter Eva and reflects on happy memories. Tony, her husband, shares a special dance with her to her favorite song, leaving no dry eyes in the pub. Later, Diane passes away peacefully in bed, with Tony and her children singing nursery rhymes nearby.
Hollyoaks airs these scenes from Monday, May 11, at 7pm on E4 or from 6am on Channel 4 streaming.
