A paediatrician in Germany has been charged with 130 counts of sexual offences, including rape, for allegedly abusing children while working at a hospital in Rathenow, eastern Germany. The 46-year-old doctor, from Brandenburg, whose name has not been released, is accused of committing the crimes while on duty at the Havelland Clinic's children's ward over a period spanning more than a decade.
Details of the Allegations
According to German tabloid Bild, the alleged abuse took place between early December 2013 and the doctor's arrest in November 2025. The charges include multiple counts of rape and other sexual offences against children. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the mother of a child who was allegedly abused while in the paediatric ward at the Rathenow clinic.
Investigation and Evidence
Detectives conducted searches after the complaint and reportedly seized several hard drives containing incriminating material. This evidence led prosecutors to investigate whether there were additional victims beyond those already identified. The doctor has been detained due to the risk of reoffending, as reported by Bild.
Clinic's Response
Havelland Clinics announced in January that it would conduct a review of its safeguarding measures. The clinic stated that the principle of having two staff members present during child examinations had allegedly been violated, prompting an internal investigation into the incident.
The case has shocked the local community and raised concerns about child protection protocols in medical settings. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure all victims are identified and supported.
