Detective Craig Ingram (Matthew James Bailey) faces suspension from his policing duties in EastEnders next week after a serious complaint is lodged against him. The development comes as his unsettling attention on teenager Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) intensifies, leaving viewers questioning his motives.
Craig's Suspension and the Joel Marshall Investigation
Craig, who has been leading the investigation into the hammer attack on Joel Marshall (Max Murray), is informed by his superior that a formal complaint has been made, resulting in his immediate removal from the case. The attack, which occurred in July, left Joel for dead after he was tied up by a group of local teens seeking retribution for his actions against Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) and Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig).
Throughout the investigation, Craig questioned all the youths involved and controversially agreed to withhold video evidence of the teens pouring beer over a restrained Joel. Despite their denials, Ricky (Frankie Day) feared Craig would discover the bike lock used in the attack belonged to him, prompting Amy to approach the detective for information.
Amy's Growing Unease
The conversation left Amy on edge, and matters escalated when Craig stumbled upon a clandestine meeting of the teens, leading him to probe Amy further. When Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) spotted them together, Craig claimed he was merely checking on Amy's welfare. Amy, believing she could trust him, revealed the bike lock was Ricky's, and Craig gave her his personal mobile number.
Later this week, Amy confides in Craig, who offers comfort. However, next week she privately frets as Craig's suspension unfolds. A chance encounter with Joel, who is with Vicki, rattles Amy further, prompting her to meet Craig again. She admits feeling overwhelmed, and Craig promises to be there for her, which she accepts.
What Is Craig's True Intent?
The central question remains: what is Craig's real agenda, and what has Amy so distressed? Craig debuted in July when Jack learned he would take over his cases while Denise Fox (Diane Parish) underwent chemotherapy for leukaemia. The actor Matthew James Bailey is known to audiences for his role as Ethan Williams on Hollyoaks from 2021 to 2024.
