Coronation Street's Sam fears end after psychosis breakdown

Coronation Street's Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) has been admitted to hospital after suffering a psychosis breakdown. Over recent weeks, the youngster has experienced visual and auditory hallucinations, primarily involving Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) and Roy Cropper (David Neilson). Sam's visions of Roy have given him dangerous advice and convinced him that Will is out to get him.

Sam's Terrifying Ordeal

In today's episode, the version of Roy living in Sam's head convinced him that Will would eventually kill him. Sam locked himself in the cafe, and his loved ones only discovered what was happening when Will followed him and found Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) approaching. As Leanne, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) tried to get Sam to open the door, he was inside, terrified by two versions of Roy: one sat on a chair telling him those around him were playing a cruel trick, while the real Roy gently tried to help.

Sam fled the cafe and was eventually spotted by Carla Connor-Swain (Alison King) at the precinct. Carla, who has previously suffered a psychosis breakdown, recognized the same thing happening to Sam. She supported him, called Nick, and chatted to prevent Sam from running away until Nick and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) arrived. Sam tried to leave, but Nick caught him, and Sam broke down in his dad's arms, petrified about what was going on in his mind.

Nick's Promise and the Hospital Visit

Nick attempted to explain that Sam's brain was playing tricks on him, but the reality of how unwell his son was hit as Sam tipped his drink on the floor, believing it had been poisoned, and said Nick had been tricked too. Nick promised Sam he wouldn't get him 'locked up' and gently took him out of the precinct, saying they'd go home. However, Sam later woke from a nap in the car to discover Nick hadn't been entirely honest.

Nick had driven Sam to the hospital. The last thing he wanted was to lie, but he recognized Sam needed help. Waiting were Leanne and Toyah, and Leanne coaxed Sam into the hospital. As he walked to the entrance, Sam remained certain he was about to get locked up. A devastated Nick watched, broken to see his boy in such a dark place.
