Casualty spoilers follow for Saturday’s (May 30) episode that is now available to view on BBC iPlayer. The episode in question will air on BBC One at 8:25pm.
Cameron ‘Cam’ Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) was left devastated when he arrived at former patient Alan’s home to find that he’d died. Alan, played by TV legend Christopher Timothy who is best known for his roles on EastEnders, Doctors and All Creatures Great and Small, was admitted to the ED a number of weeks ago and subsequently developed a strong friendship with Cam, who has been working in the corridors as a frailty nurse.
Cam has been frustrated with the way that a number of his patients have been left in corridors due to lack of beds and he’s attempted to raise the issue with Clinical Lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix). Earlier this month, he was left devastated when patient Beryl died after going missing in the hospital. When Alan was discharged, Cam offered to come over for a cuppa, hoping to be a source of support for him.
Going above and beyond as ever, Cam has stayed true to his promise, with the latest offering of the BBC medical drama – which can now be streamed on iPlayer – confirming that he and Alan have very much kept in touch. With Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak) in tow, Cam arrived at Alan’s home to find his former patient on the floor. He helped him back to his feet and suggested phoning for an ambulance but Alan refused to hear of it, revealing that he didn’t want to go back to the corridor.
In emotional scenes, he asked Cam to help him take his own life. Cam was devastated and told Alan that he had so much left to live for. Alan appeared to change his mind after Cam reiterated just how much he cared, with the two making plans to see each other more often. Indie, meanwhile, stayed with Alan while Cam headed back to work. Alan reminisced about his beloved wife Catherine’s last years in a hospice, discussing how he regretted not being there at the end. Indie related to the situation, recalling that she wasn’t with her Nan when she died.
Later, after leaving Alan, Indie recalled their previous conversation and, sensing that something was wrong, she raced back to his property, where she found Alan losing consciousness, having taken an overdose. Indie attempted to phone for an ambulance but Alan pleaded with her to instead hold his hand, asking her what she would do if he was her Nan. In emotional scenes, Indie broke down as she sat by his side, holding his hand as he’d asked.
After a tough shift in the corridor, Cam arrived at the house to find Alan, who had passed away with the picture of his beloved Catherine by his side. Cam was devastated. Will he find out what happened?
