Five years after the tragic death of Caroline Flack, her mother Christine is speaking out, claiming the full story behind the TV presenter's suicide is far darker than the public has been led to believe.
A Mother's Quest for Truth
Christine Flack has broken her silence ahead of a new two-part Disney Plus documentary, Caroline Flack: Search For The Truth, which premieres on Monday, November 10. The documentary is set to shed new light on the final 24 hours of the former Love Island host's life.
'People think they know what happened to Caroline, but the reality is much darker,' Christine stated. 'There’s so much information the public haven’t seen. I want the truth to come out.'
Flack took her own life in February 2020 at the age of 40, shortly after learning that prosecutors were proceeding with an assault charge against her, despite the Crown Prosecution Service initially recommending a caution.
Unseen Evidence and Police Apology
The documentary will reveal poignant personal materials from Caroline Flack, including previously unseen text messages and voice notes that depict her deteriorating mental state. In one text, she wrote, 'I don’t see any way out of this,' while another detailed, 'I’m having a big panic attack.'
In a particularly moving audio clip, Flack is heard saying, 'I’m receiving so much abuse.' In another voice note, she pondered, 'I think I should make a documentary about all of this, what do you think?'
Christine is seen in the film taking phones out of a wicker box, stating that her late daughter's devices 'tell the real story' of her ordeal.
This new evidence emerges after the Metropolitan Police were forced to apologise to Flack's family in 2023. An Independent Office for Police Conduct review found the force had no 'record of rationale' for appealing the CPS's original decision to issue a caution, leading to Flack being charged with assault by beating instead.
A Legacy Remembered and a Family's Fight
Caroline Flack was one of British television's most prominent presenters, best known for hosting the ITV reality show Love Island from 2015 to 2019. Her career also included presenting roles on The X Factor and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! NOW!
In 2014, she won the twelfth series of Strictly Come Dancing with professional partner Pasha Kovalev, achieving a perfect score in the final.
For her mother Christine, the fight for clarity continues. 'As a parent, we think our children are always going to be there,' she said. 'I want justice for my daughter.'
She revealed that Flack had asked her not to intervene while the court case was ongoing, a request she now reflects on with regret. 'I think I’ve got as many answers as I can now. I hope this programme can set the record straight. I wish I’d done it before Caroline died.'
