Alison Steadman Health Update: Gavin & Stacey Star Recovers After 9 Months
Alison Steadman health update after serious fall

Beloved British actress Alison Steadman has provided a positive health update, marking a significant milestone in her recovery from a serious fall that left her injured earlier this year.

The Incident and Initial Injury

The Gavin and Stacey star suffered a nasty fall while at a restaurant in Dubai, an event she describes as "absolutely horrible". The accident occurred as she was walking along a concrete walkway to get some pudding.

"I tripped and it felt like I went up in the air about 5ft and then just crashed down on concrete," Alison recounted during an appearance at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. "I landed on this foot and this hand and was in absolute agony."

The impact was so severe that it resulted in a broken metatarsal, an injury that famously sidelined footballer David Beckham in 2002. The severity of her injuries even led medics to initially speculate she might have fallen from a camel, a suggestion the actress quickly dismissed.

A Long Road to Recovery

The fall had immediate and significant consequences, leaving the actress temporarily wheelchair-bound. Her recovery journey has spanned nine months, a period during she has relied on mobility aids.

Providing an update during an appearance on ITV's Lorraine, Alison shared her progress: "I'm doing OK. I'm back on my feet after eight/ nine months. I've just stopped using a stick. I thought, 'I've got to try.'"

This recent milestone of abandoning her walking stick marks a major step forward in her rehabilitation. Her recovery is particularly timely with her 80th birthday approaching in August.

Looking Ahead: No Plans to Retire

Despite the shock of nearing her ninth decade, the Here We Go star has firmly dismissed any notion of retiring from acting. She expressed her surprise at the milestone age, joking that she would prefer to remain 79.

Reflecting on the differences between generations, she noted her current style, influenced by her recovery: "Now, I'm wearing trainers all the time, because of my foot, and they've got a little sparkle on them."

Most importantly, she ended with a definitive statement about her future career: "I'm not going to retire." This declaration will reassure fans that they haven't seen the last of the acclaimed actress on their screens.
