Scarlett Moffatt Reveals 'Soul-Destroying' Late Miscarriage After Son's Birth
Scarlett Moffatt opens up about late miscarriage heartbreak

Television personality Scarlett Moffatt has courageously shared the heartbreaking news that she suffered a late miscarriage following the birth of her son, a loss she describes as profoundly 'soul-destroying'.

A Joyful Arrival Followed by Heartbreak

The 35-year-old star, who rose to fame on Gogglebox and later won I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, welcomed her first child, a son named Jude, in June 2023. However, in a recent candid interview, she revealed that she and her partner, Scott Dobinson, 37, subsequently experienced a devastating pregnancy loss.

Moffatt explained that the couple had been excitedly planning to expand their family and had even shared their happy news with loved ones. The miscarriage occurred 'quite late on' in the pregnancy, making the emotional impact even more severe. She spoke of mourning not just the baby, but the future life they had imagined, including scenes of siblings running downstairs together at Christmas.

The Decision to 'Stop' Trying for More Children

The emotional toll of the loss led Moffatt to a difficult decision. She recalled lying in bed one day and telling Dobinson, 'I can't handle the heartbreak anymore'. The couple made the conscious choice to stop their attempts to have more children and to focus their love and energy on their son, Jude.

'We've got Jude, so let's enjoy him,' she told her partner. Moffatt expressed immense admiration for other families who continue their journey to parenthood after similar losses, calling them 'really strong people', as the process was also physically awful on her body.

Focusing on Family and a Triumphant Return

Following Jude's birth, Moffatt decided to step back from her television career for two years to 'focus on being a mum'. After waiting over three years to conceive, she was determined to 'soak it all in' and cherish every moment with her newborn.

Her return to the spotlight was marked by a significant triumph: just this week, she won the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special alongside her professional partner, Vito Coppola. Away from the dance floor, her personal life continues to blossom; she and Dobinson, who have known each other since she was 17, got engaged six months after Jude's birth and are set to marry in June next year.

Moffatt concluded her reflections by sharing the poignant message she posted when announcing Jude's arrival, writing to her son: 'Our heart and soul feels complete & ready to burst. I will forever and always be grateful to be your mammy.'
