Police Search for New Mother Who Fled Romford Hospital, Leaving Baby
Mother flees Romford hospital after birth, baby safe

Police in London are urgently searching for a young woman who left a hospital in Romford shortly after giving birth, leaving her newborn baby behind.

Appeal for Vulnerable Mother

The Metropolitan Police have released CCTV images and issued a public appeal to help trace the mother, who they say is extremely vulnerable after recently giving birth. Officers were called to the hospital on Tuesday, 30th December 2025, after reports that the woman had left without her baby.

The newborn remains in the care of hospital staff and is reported to be in good health. Detectives have emphasised that their primary concern is the welfare of the mother and that this is not a criminal investigation.

Description and CCTV Footage

The woman is described as being in her 20s, of slim build, with dark hair. She was last seen wearing a light-coloured top and a patterned skirt. CCTV released by the police shows her arriving at the hospital visibly pregnant and later leaving without a noticeable bump.

Detective Inspector Neil Godwin, who is leading the investigation for the Met, said: "This woman has just given birth and, because of this, she is extremely vulnerable. This is not a criminal investigation – we need to locate her to make sure she is ok."

Public Urged to Come Forward

The police have expressed increasing concern for the mother's welfare and are urging anyone with information to contact them immediately. DI Godwin added: "It is extremely important that if you know, or have any information about the whereabouts of this woman that you tell us so we can ensure she gets the right support."

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101.
