According to a statement from police in Burgenland, a sample from a 190g (7oz) jar of HiPP carrots and potatoes baby food, reported by a customer, tested positive for rat poison. The manufacturer, HiPP, stated on Saturday that it could not rule out the introduction of a dangerous substance into the product, suggesting possible tampering with the jars.
Consuming the contents of these contaminated jars could be life-threatening, HiPP warned. The police identified affected jars by specific characteristics: a sticker with a red circle on the bottom, a lid that appeared opened, damaged, or missing a safety seal, or an unusual smell.
