Police have named the teenager who was stabbed to death in Battersea as Jamal Coombes, 17. A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder, bringing the total number of arrests to three.
Details of the incident
Officers were called to Glycena Road, south London, in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, following reports of a stabbing. The London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance also attended, but the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics' efforts. His next-of-kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.
Arrests made
A Met spokesman said: 'On Saturday, 20 June, officers arrested a boy and a girl, both aged 15, on suspicion of murder. On Sunday, 21 June, a 14-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of murder. They all remain in custody.'
DCI Brian Howie said: 'Our thoughts remain firmly with Jamal's loved ones following his tragic death. I understand the impact this incident has had on the local community. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to speak with one of our officers on patrol in the area this week.'
Appeal for witnesses
Detectives believe an altercation occurred before the assault. They are appealing for anyone who was in the Lavender Hill area between 03:30 and 05:00 on Saturday, specifically on Glycena Road, Acanthus Road, or Pountney Road, and witnessed a group of men running, to come forward. CCTV, doorbell, or mobile phone footage may also be crucial.
'Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could prove crucial,' DCI Howie added. 'I would also urge members of the public not to assume that information has already been shared; any detail could be of significant importance to the investigation.'
