British Transport Police (BTP) have launched an investigation following a sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl at one of London's busiest stations. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 18, after the teenager was followed by a man from a bus to Abbey Wood Tube station and then onto an Elizabeth line train.
Timeline of the Assault
The victim first noticed the man watching her on a bus to Abbey Wood at approximately 12:40pm. He then followed her off the bus and onto a westbound Elizabeth line train heading to Tottenham Court Road. After a 25-minute journey, the man trailed her off the train and sexually assaulted her before walking away.
BTP detectives are now releasing a CCTV image of a man they believe may hold crucial information about the attack. In a statement, the force said: "Detectives would like to speak to the man pictured, as they believe he may have information which could help their investigation."
Description of the Suspect
The man in the image is described as an older White male with a large build and short grey or white hair. He was wearing a yellow short-sleeved shirt, black shorts, and black trainers. Notably, he had black sunglasses tucked into the chest pocket of his shirt.
Police are urging anyone who recognises the man to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 119 of 9 July. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Other Incidents in London
In a separate incident, police are appealing for information about a brutal assault that left a Transport for London (TfL) staff member with a broken eye socket. The worker was attacked at Whitechapel station after asking a passenger to stop vaping on the platform.
These incidents highlight ongoing safety concerns on London's transport network. BTP continues to appeal for witnesses and information to help bring those responsible to justice.
