Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder after another teenager was stabbed in Dagenham, East London. The victim, also 16, was taken to hospital with stab injuries that were deemed neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
Officers were called to Porters Avenue at approximately 6pm on Thursday, September 3, following reports of a fight. Upon arrival, they found the injured teenager and provided treatment at the scene before he was transported to an accident and emergency department.
Arrest at the Scene
A second 16-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, affray, and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in police custody, according to a Met Police spokesperson.
The spokesperson said: “Police were called to reports of an altercation at 6.01pm on Thursday, September 4, on Porters Avenue. Officers attended the scene and located a boy aged 16, with stab injuries.
“He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where his injuries were deemed neither life threatening nor life-changing. Another boy aged 16, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, affray and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody.”
Ongoing Investigation
The Met Police confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing and stated there is no wider risk to the public. They have appealed for anyone with information to contact police on 101, quoting reference 5785/03SEP.
The London Ambulance Service also responded to the incident. A spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.01pm yesterday (Thursday, September 3) to reports of an assault in Martins Corner near Wood Lane, Dagenham.
“We sent an ambulance crew to the scene. We treated a patient at the scene and took him to hospital.”
Appeal for Information
Police have urged witnesses or anyone with information about the stabbing to come forward. The investigation continues as officers work to establish the full circumstances of the altercation.
The arrested teenager remains in custody, and no further arrests have been reported at this time.
