A person is in a critical condition after being struck by a train near Belmont station in Sutton during Monday evening rush hour. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5.20pm on June 29 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Victim hospitalised with life-threatening injuries

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that one person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim's age and gender have not been disclosed. Officers are not treating the incident as suspicious, the force said in a statement released on Tuesday morning.

A BTP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Belmont railway station at 5.18pm yesterday (June 29) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to hospital with injuries that are being treated as life-threatening. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Train services disrupted for several hours

The incident caused significant disruption to train services. Routes affected included services from Epsom and Sutton to London Bridge, and from Epsom and Epsom Downs to Victoria. Police secured the scene, and the lines fully reopened shortly before 12.30am on Tuesday morning.

Commuters faced delays and cancellations as authorities investigated the incident. BTP thanked passengers for their patience during the disruption.
