One person has been killed and five others wounded in a shooting at a rave party in Aarau, northern Switzerland, local police said on Sunday. The incident prompted a large-scale police response and a search for the perpetrators, whose identities remain unknown.
Shooting at Aarau racecourse
The shooting occurred before 3am on the sidelines of the Aarauer Rave, according to Swiss newspaper Blick. Police spokesperson Vanessa Rumpold told the newspaper that several shots were fired within a large group of people at the racecourse where the event was held. One witness reported bursts of gunfire.
Police search for suspects
Police said on X that the search for the perpetrators, whose identities are currently unknown, is under way. They added that the motives and exact circumstances were not yet known. The incident prompted a large-scale police response in Aarau, north of Zurich, officers said.
Annual techno party draws thousands
About 3,500 people attended the annual techno party, which ran between 3pm on Saturday and 2am on Sunday. Police officers with an armoured vehicle were seen responding to the shooting, and officers patrolled a street in downtown Aarau on Sunday.
