A 32-year-old man has died in hospital following a serious assault at Liverpool Street's Central line underground station. The victim was attacked on Sunday night and died two days later, on Tuesday, September 1, surrounded by his family.
Assault and emergency response
Emergency services were called to reports of a serious assault at the station's eastbound Central line platform at around 10.51pm on Sunday, August 30. When officers and paramedics arrived, they found the victim in a critical condition and he was taken to hospital.
The victim was travelling home through Liverpool Street Station after being at Notting Hill Carnival, according to British Transport Police. His family is being supported by specially trained officers as the investigation continues.
Charge and court proceedings
Prior to the man's death, the Crown Prosecution Service had authorised a charge of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) against Jeremiah Maximo, 38, of Drydock Square, Barking, in connection with the incident. Following the victim's death, the British Transport Police are now making an application to amend the charge on the indictment, which will take place at a later date in court.
Maximo was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court today, September 2.

BTP Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said: “First and foremost our thoughts are firmly with loved ones of the young man who has sadly died. They are being supported by specially trained officers as our investigation continues.”
“The victim was travelling back from Notting Hill Carnival at the time of the incident, and we continue to appeal to anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police to come forward and assist our investigation.”
