Man Charged with Stealing Camera from Bondi Victim

New South Wales police have charged a man for allegedly stealing camera equipment from one of the victims of the Bondi beach terror attack in the aftermath of the shooting. The incident occurred during the Hanukah event on 14 December, where 15 people were killed.

Details of the Theft

Police allege that the man, Danny James Ridley, 35, was present at the Hanukah event before the shooting. During their investigation, detectives identified that one of the victims, 61-year-old retired police officer and photographer Peter Meagher, had his camera equipment stolen in the aftermath of the attack. Meagher, who served in the NSW police force for 35 years, was described by his family as someone who was "struck down in retirement while pursuing his passion for taking photos."

Arrest and Charges

On Wednesday morning, police executed a search warrant in Sydney's north-western suburbs. They located and seized a camera, handcuffs, and electronic devices. Additionally, a small amount of white crystal powder and further electronics were found in a car. Ridley was arrested and taken to Riverstone police station, where he was charged with larceny and disposing of stolen property. Police will allege that Ridley stole the deceased victim's camera equipment and pawned it days later.
