A man in his 60s sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a bus in Hackney on Tuesday morning, July 28. The incident occurred on Kingsland High Street, prompting a major emergency response and a police investigation.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 10:09am following reports of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian. The London Ambulance Service dispatched multiple resources, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and a trauma team from London's Air Ambulance. The first paramedic arrived in less than two minutes. The man was treated at the scene and then transported to a major trauma centre by road, where he remains with injuries described as life-threatening or life-changing.
Road closure and police cordon
The Metropolitan Police have established a cordon between Crossway and Sandringham Road, closing Kingsland High Street to both motorists and pedestrians. The road is expected to remain closed for some time as investigation work continues. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 10:12hrs on Tuesday, 28 July to reports of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian on Kingsland High Street, Hackney. Officers are at the scene and Kingsland High Street is currently closed between Crossway and Sandringham Road. The pedestrian, a man aged 60, was taken to hospital where his injuries were deemed to be life-threatening and life-changing. No arrests have been made and an investigation is underway to establish what took place."

The Met Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns on London's roads, particularly for pedestrians. A London Ambulance Spokesperson added: "We were called at 10:09am today (28 July) to reports of a road traffic collision on Kingsland High Street, Hackney, E8. We sent ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London's Air Ambulance."
