More than 60 firefighters are currently tackling a blaze at a waste site in Leyton, East London, after around 20 tonnes of scrap metal caught fire. The London Fire Brigade has advised residents to keep their doors and windows shut due to the large amount of smoke being produced.
Fire crews called to Staffa Road recycling facility
The London Fire Brigade was first called to the metal recycling facility on Staffa Road at approximately 6:44am on Tuesday, September 8. Crews from Leyton, Homerton, Walthamstow, and surrounding fire stations have been dispatched to the scene to bring the fire under control.
People in the local area have been advised to avoid the vicinity of the incident while emergency services work at the site. The smoke generated by the burning scrap metal has prompted the warning for residents to remain indoors with windows and doors closed.
